Think about it...
I thought of this while i was in China and back here. In China i often passed the homeless and needy and told myself that other people who were more knowledgeable about the situation would help these people... i didn't know what they were asking for, what their situation was, etc... now i am back here and passing homeless or needy people on the street telling myself that i will help them the next time i pass or that someone else will stop... the question is who? if i am not willing to go out on the edge and help some of these people, am i almost being so cautious with my money that it is almost selfish and even stuckup? If i do not help these people, who will? Isn't that what God called us to do? Something to think about!

Brent,

First of all lemme say that I love the website!!! I especially love all of the pictures of you trying to be cool! Ha ha! Just kidding :o) Anyway, I'm glad to see that you're having a good summer so far and that things are going well. As for your little "think about it" thing (Coach Drury wannabe!).... I think it's easy to pass the homeless up because it allows us to stay in our comfort zone. If we actually stop and talk to these people it would require us to get down on their level and we as Americans do not like to lower ourselves to other people's levels. And yes I think we should give financially to the homeless. I know, I know....But what if they take the money I give them and go buy drugs or alcohol with it?! That's not the point...the Bible says to give to those in need. So we should give our money regardless because that's what we're called to do. The Bible doesn't say to give to those who you know will spend your money wisely, it just says "GIVE!" Of course, you can give in other ways as well and sometimes those other ways are just as good as giving them money. Sometimes all they need is someone to stop and listen to them. That would probably mean more to most of them then handing them money because if you think about it anyone can hand somebody a $5 dollar bill and keep walking without ever finding out anything about that person and it allows us to remain in our comfort zones. But it takes a real, genuine, and caring person to sit down and talk to them and listen to them for a little while. Ok I'm done preaching now cuz I think you get the point :o) Anyway, I hope you continue to have an awesome and amazing summer bro! Do something wild and crazy for me will ya?!?! Take care man and I hope to talk to ya soon!

True story. There's a song that I recently discovered that talks about that. It's "Just the Same" by Big Dismal. It's a great song and made me think about all the people we passed in China. I want to help but I know that just plunking some coins in their hand isn't the answer. But what is? That's the hard part for me.

What can you do? I think anything is better than nothing! I don't have the answer, there will always be homeless, sick, and needy people. I just know the Bible says to give. I would much rather be caught taking time out of my day to stop, talk, and help the man on the side of the road in some way rather than be caught passing all the people broke down on the side of the road because i am on too tight of a schedule. It scares me because it reminds me of a old story made modern... the Good Samaritan!
